Dr Alex Beard
Senior Tutor
Alex is our Senior Tutor at Hertford, and teaches History, English, and Spanish. He graduated from Oxford University at the top of his year group, and stayed in Oxford to become a Lecturer and Research Fellow in Modern Languages. But his real passion is teaching, which has taken him all over the world, and now, for the second time, back to Hong Kong.
Rosie
Tutor in Chemistry and Biology
Rosie took her BA in Biological Science at The Queen's College, Oxford, where she was awarded a Styring Scholarship for academic excellence. She has extensive experience of teaching Biology and Chemistry for both GCSE and GCE A-level syllabuses, and has also tutored English at several levels in Hong Kong and Macau. She is fluent in Mandarin.
Roxanne
Tutor in English and Ancient Greek
Roxanne graduated from Oxford University with a First-class degree in Classics and English, and is passionate about helping students of all backgrounds to enjoy the same opportunities in education, and the same success, as her. She has taught at both primary and secondary level, and is currently involved in a variety of university access projects.
Boris
Tutor in Mathematics and Physics
Boris is Hertford's premier Mathematician. He completed his PhD at South Ural State University in Russia before becoming a lecturer in Engineering at Tsinghua University in Beijing. He boasts 12 years of teaching experience at all levels of education, in 3 different languages (Russian, English and Mandarin).
Tzu-Liang
Tutor in Physics and Mathematics
After completing his PhD in Physics in Iowa, Tzu Liang taught at universities across the United States. He returned to Hong Kong in 2011 as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor at the Baptist University. With over 15 years of teaching experience at the highest levels, he is one of Hertford’s most experienced and capable tutors.
Jiao
Tutor in Mandarin Chinese
Originally from Zhejiang Province, Jiao completed her undergraduate degree in Chinese Language and Literature in Xi'an, before moving to Hong Kong in 2014 to take a Master's (with Distinction) in Education at HKU. She has over 5 years of teaching experience, in English and Mandarin.
Chi
Tutor in Economics and Mathematics
An inveterate teacher and learner, Chi earned his BA in Finance, and then three separate Master's degrees (Economics, Accountancy, and Business Administration), at New Mexico State University in the United States. He taught at NMSU for several years before returning to Hong Kong, where he is now Hertford's principal tutor in Economics.
Jerry
Tutor in Economics and Business
A qualified accountant, Jerry holds a degree in Business Administration from Baptist University, and completed his MA at Birmingham City University in the UK. He has over 10 years of experience teaching Economics and Business in Hong Kong, at both Secondary and Tertiary level. He is also the author of a popular textbook on Accountancy for the DSE.
Liliana
Tutor in English, French and Latin
Liliana graduated from Oxford University in Latin and French, and went on to complete a doctorate in English. She speaks 5 languages (Spanish, English, French, German and Mandarin), but if there is one thing she loves even more than her languages, it's the IB. It's weird, we know.

Yasine
Tutor in Chemistry and Biology
Having completed the IB with flying colours at KCCIS, Yasine knows all about what it is like to go through Hong Kong's international school system. Since then, he has dedicated himself to helping others to do the same. A star student at HKUST, he is one of our most dedicated and hard-working tutors.
